Thomas Blatt, born in 1927 in Izbica, Poland, describes the arrival of Hitler’s personal militia in his village as well as German soldiers and the SS; the deportation of Jews; the influx of people from Czechoslovakia; a plan to smuggle Jews to Hungary in 1943; his job sorting clothes; destroying machines at the end of the war; and his feelings about the Nazis.
