    Biography
Helga Newman (1914-1977) was born Helga Holländer on August 2, 1914 in Cologne, Germany to Adolf Holländer (b. 1976) and Maria Holländer (Mizzi/Mitzi, née Buchsbaum, b. 1893). She had a twin brother, Werner Holländer (1914-1944), and a sister, Margot Holländer (later Margot Fromer and Margot Lobo Filho, b. 1912). In 1931 the family moved to Vienna, Austria. Helga married Richard Neumann in 1936. She and her husband fled to England by 1939, and in July 1940 they immigrated to the United States. Her parents and sister all survived the Holocaust. Her brother Werner was arrested in Kassel, Germany in May 1942 on charges of Rassenschande, or “race defilement,” and executed in Preungesheim Prison in May 1944.
