- Description
- The Selected Records from the State Archives in Shumen consists of documents relating to the Jewish community in Shumen, Bulgaria and Novi Pazar, Bulgaria before and during World War II. The records contain correspondence files with local authorities and Jewish communities in Bulgaria and abroad; petitions of local Jews; personal documentation; financial records; lists of Jews residing in Ruse, Bulgaria; and correspondence and orders received from the Office of the Commissariat for Jewish Affairs (1943-1944). The collection also contains records of several Jewish charitable organizations including bylaws, lists of members, and correspondence with local authorities regarding charitable and cultural activities and programs within the Jewish community. Also included are selected records of local authorities and regional administrations, regional courts, police departments, and agricultural administrations related to the activities within the Jewish community, individual members of the Jewish community, and Jewish owned businesses.
