Editha Kokojanová (née Mayerová), born in 1921 in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia, describes growing up half Jewish; the beginning of German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939; the increasingly unsafe conditions for her family; the burning of the local synagogue; her Jewish father separating himself from his family to protect them; her interrogation by the Gestapo in 1941; her father's imprisonment in 1942 in Auschwitz where he perished; the deportation of her brother in 1944; and life for her and her siblings after the war.
