    Biography
Ziuta Grünberg Grünhut was born October 11, 1927 to Zygmunt Grünberg ( b. Feb. 1, 1896), an architect, and Berta Miller Grünberg (b. Nov. 7, 1898). The Grünberg family lived in Krakow, Poland. Zygmunt sent Ziuta’s older brother Roman (b. October 12, 1922) to a boarding school in London, on April 20, 1939. Zygmunt was forced to become the chief architect and engineer of the Płaszów concentration camp. The family was deported to Auschwitz, and Zygmunt was transferred to Flossenbürg. According to some sources, Zygmunt was murdered in the Flossenbürg stone quarry on April 23, 1945, but according to other records he died in subcamp Saal an der Donau on March 17, 1945. Ziuta and Berta were taken to Bergen-Belsen and transferred to Mauthausen; Berta died in the train.
