Herbert Steinhouse at his desk in Paris.

Steinhouse was between jobs at Reuters and CBC Radio when he first stumbled across the Schindler saga. Later, magazine editors would reject his piece, citing the public's fatigue with war stories and surfeit of articles on "good Germans."
