Portrait of Lodzia Hamersztajn and Ester Fiks (Julcia) after the liberation. Both were members of the Hashomer Hatzair Zionist youth movement and couriers in the Jewish underground in Poland.

Julcia met Lodzia Hamersztajn in 1943 while they were both living on false papers in Krakow and working for the Germans. They stayed together until the liberation. Julcia had a younger brother, Benzion, known as Bolus, who survived the war on the Aryan side of Warsaw as one of the cigarette sellers in Three Crosses Square. Julcia and her brother immigrated to Palestine in 1946.
