HeHalutz was an association of Jewish youth movements founded at the turn of the century to train its members in manual labor, usually agriculture,  in preparation for immigration to Palestine.  

In Lithuania, HeHalutz was established after World War I, and membership ranged betwen 1,000 and 1,500 youth. Kibbutzim were established in several towns including Kovno, Shavli, Poniviez and Memel.  Originally these cooperative societies trained workers in carpentry, tailoring and other crafts.  Later, the focus shifted to primarily agricultural work.
