Plebiscite campaign poster reproducing the letters in which the Austrian Catholic bishops state their unified pro-Anschluss position.

Prior to the Nazi-sponsored plebiscite, Austrian Cardinal Innitzer welcomed the Anschluss and allowed Catholic churches to be decorated with swastika flags. On March 18, 1938, he called upon Austrians to vote in favor of annexation. The plebiscite was scheduled for April 10. The formal unification of Austria with Germany took place April 16, 1938.
