Photograph | Photograph Number: N00052

Image of a doll given to Zofia Burowska by her parents in the 1930s which she kept with her while living in the Wolbrum and Krakow ghettos.

The doll and some of her family's other belongings were left with non-Jewish friends for safekeeping. From the Krakow ghetto, Zofia was deported to a forced labor camp in Krakow and then to the Skarzysko-Kamienna munitions factory camp in the Radom district. When that camp was liquidated she was sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar, Germany, where she was liberated. After the war Zofia returned to Krakow and retrieved the doll.
