Photograph | Photograph Number: 89353

Doctors and nurses examine children in a pediatric clinic in Cernauti.

Among those pictured are Dr. Mendel Wiesenthal (center), Cernauti's most prominent Jewish pediatrician; Josephina Metsch Appenzeller (the donor's mother, who is looking at Wiesenthal); and Dr. Salick, a female pediatrician (far right). The Yiddish poster on the wall, printed by OSE (Oeuvre secours aux enfants) extols the virtues of breast-feeding.
