- DPs departing Germany for the United States wait with their luggage in the former Von Tirpitz navy yard.
The navy yard is being used as a staging area for emigrants leaving Europe through the port of Bremerhaven. From here the DPs will be transported to Bremerhaven where they will sail on the Marine Flasher to New York.

- In May 1946, the Marine Flasher transported 867 European DPs to the U.S., the first contingent to be admitted under President Truman's December 1945 directive expediting the immigration of displaced persons to the U.S. 450 of these new immigrants were assisted by the American Joint Distribution Committee.
