Amanda Nickels (left) and Leah Katz-Hernandez (right) assist the candlelighters at the 2000 Days of Remembrance ceremony in the capitol rotunda.

Amanda's participation is in memory of the Sinti and Roma victims of the Holocaust; Leah's participation is in memory of the mentally and physically handicapped victims of the Holocaust.

The theme of this year's commemoration was "The Holocaust and the New Century: The Imperative to Remember." Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson delivered the keynote address, and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Stuart E. Eizenstat were recognized for their extraordinary contributions.
