Photograph | Photograph Number: 65302

An emaciated survivor lies inside a barrack on a pile of straw in the newly liberated Nordhausen concentration camp. He died shortly thereafter.

The original caption reads: "Lifeless eyes stare from the broken starved body of a slave laborer who died at the Nordhausen camp. Hundreds of emaciated men, too weak to move, were found on the barracks floor among their dead. Russian, Polish, French, Beligan, and Italian captives were forced to work for the Hitler war machine until they starved to death or were shot."
