The bodies of political prisoners exhumed from a mass grave on Wenzelnberg near Solingen-Ohligs.

Photograph | Photograph Number: 64160

The bodies of political prisoners exhumed from a mass grave on Wenzelnberg near Solingen-Ohligs.

The victims, most of whom were taken from Luettringhausen prison, were shot and buried by the Gestapo following orders to eliminate all Reich enemies just before the end of the war.

The original caption reads "Bodies of German political prisoners who were shot by Nazis and thrown into a common grave. Bodies were exhumed by German civilians by order of troops of the 94th Division, and will be given decent reburial in Ohligs in a public place as a permanent reminder to the German people of the atrocities committed by their Nazi leaders."
