Dr. Lolling shakes the hand of Dr. Eduard Wirths during the dedication of the new SS hospital in Auschwitz.

Photograph | Photograph Number: 34745

Dr. Lolling shakes the hand of Dr. Eduard Wirths during the dedication of the new SS hospital in Auschwitz.

The original caption reads "Die Ubergabe" (the handover). The ceremony marks the transfer of documents and authority from the construction department to the camp upon completion of the project.

Next to Dr. Wirths is Karl Bischoff, head of construction in Silesia. Standing in the background, between the doctors, (is probably August Harbaum, adjutant to Richard Gluecks). Standing on the left with his back to the camera is Rudolf Hoess.

Dr. Wirths also received his promotion to Sturmbannfuehrer and decorated with the War Service Cross 1st Class at the same time and this might be what is being portrayed here.
