Survivors sit in multi-tiered bunks in a barracks in the newly liberated Buchenwald concentration camp.

The lender's handwritten caption reads, "1,500 persons slept in this building. 5 or 6 persons slept in each sections without cover--no heat, and on solid wood. They left at 6 AM - to return at 7 PM. At least 50 died every night. There were special barracks for Jews and those too weak to work they were sent there to die."
