    Biography
    Brigitte Steele (born Brigitte Meyer) was born in Berlin and had one brother. The family fled to France and her father served in the French Foreign Legion. After the German invasion of France in 1940 they fled to the southern zone and settled in Chasseneuil. The family escaped deportation from Limoges by minutes. In either 1942 or 1943 they crossed the Pyrenees and made their way to Portugal. Their they boarded the Nyassa and immigrated to the United States.
