The original caption reads: "This is a tuberculosis patient in the filthy "hospital" of the prisoner-of-war camp in Homer, Germany. This photograph was made April 28, 1945, after Ninth U.S. Army troops liberated Homer's 22,000 Russian war prisoners, more than 9,000 were hospital cases suffering from tuberculosis, disentery, malnutrition and typhus. Homer is located about 15 miles southeast of Dortmund."
