Original Caption: "A German soldier, captured by the Third U.S. Army, leans over the railings of a temporary prisoner-of-war cage in Worms to bid farewell to his wife and son before being transported to the rear. Worms, nine miles north of Ludwigsshafen on the west bank of the Rhine, fell to the Americans March 20, 1945. from March 14 to25, the third U.S. Army took 76,997 prisoners."
