- Muriel Weber is the daughter of Izak and Marte Weber. Izak Weber was born in Skole, Poland, on November 20, 1910. He was the oldest of six children. Izsak moved to France in 1933 to attend medical school. He last saw his family in 1937; they may have been killed in the Lvov ghetto. Izak remained in Paris during the war.
Izak met and befriended Marte (b. 1919), a French woman whose family owned a shoe store. Germany occupied France in 1940. In 1942, Izak was arrested and sent to Drancy, but he managed to escape at night. After his escape he had to avoid being recaptured. He and Marte left their apartment, and then Izak hid with an Italian friend outside the city. After about a week, it became too dangerous to remain and Marte found another apartment for them. Izak used a false identification and remained in hiding from December 11, 1942 until the liberation of Paris in 1944. In 1950 Izak and Marte wed in a civil ceremony.
