Polish prisoners relax underneath a banner greeting their American liberators.

Photograph | Photograph Number: 84679

Polish prisoners relax underneath a banner greeting their American liberators.

The original caption reads: "Side of the Polish barracks with the poor worn out and very weak P.W.s -- They stood outdoors weather permitting, as much as they could, to escape the foul conditions inside of the barracks.

Inside the barracks were 5 or 6 wooden shelves from one end to the other, Each shelf was partitioned off into 6' spaces.

You lived and died in those spaces. If the guy above you had dysentery (diarreha) tough on you!"
