Photograph | Photograph Number: 41006

A boy sports a new cap in a displaced persons camp in Austria.

The typed caption accompanying the photograph reads: "This smiling lad, of the 38,000 surviving Jewish children in Austria and Germany under the protective care of the Joint Distribution Committee, is sporting a new cap-- manufactured in a JDC-established capmakers' shop under its work project system. In addition to those articles of clothing manufactured in the workshops, JDC last year shipped almost 34,000,000 pounds of life-sustaining commodities to distressed Jews in Austria and Germany. JDC, major American agency providing Europe's Jewish men, women and children with extensive supplementary food, clothing, medical care, welfare, rehabilitative and emigration assistance, receives its funds from the $250,000,000 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal."
