A Polish boy and his father bury the body of the boy's grandmother, who died in the Nordhausen concentration camp.
The young boy on left is Michael Kallaur (about 14 years old) who found the body of his grandmother, Elizabeth Kallaur, with her head severed off. His father Walter Kallaur stands over her. The coat next to him was given by the army photographer to cover her when she was just found.
These survivors would not allow the Germans to touch their dead, even after Colonel D.B. Hardin ordered the civilian population of the town of Nordhausen to bury the corpses of prisoners found in the Nordhausen concentration camp.
