"'לדנושה נודע שהיא יהודייה כשהיתה בת שבע וחצי. זה קרה בחדר המדרגות, כשעלתה לדירה שבה חיכתה לה דודתה סטשה. דנושה היתה קלת רגליים. כמו ציפור היא הרגישה כשהתעופפה למעלה, גומאת מדרגה אחרי מדרגה. אמנם הנעליים הגבוהות שנעלה היו מעט כבדות על הרגליים, אבל עם הזמן היא התרגלה למשקל ולשרוכים ולמדה להסתדר איתן יפה. גם ביום ההוא, כמו תמיד, היא דילגה במהירות בין הקומות, משתוקקת להגיע כבר לדירה ולחבק חזק את דודתה. ואז היא שמעה את הקול שאמר לה, 'את יודעת שאת יהודייה' זו היתה אמנם שאלה, אבל דנושה לא הצליחה לענות עליה'"--Back cover.
