Mara Cygielstrejch was born April 18, 1908 in Zablotow, Poland. She spend her childhood in Lvov. In 1949, Cygielstrejch left Poland for Israel and settled in Tel Aviv.

- The memoir was handwritten in Polish by Mara Cygielstrejch on her eighty-fifth birthday in 1993. Along with a typed Polish copy and an English translation, it was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collections Department by her nephew, Mieczyslaw Cegielski. The three versions of the memoir were transferred from the Collections and Acquisitions Department to United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Dec. 1993.

Letter, written by Zofia (Zosia) Cygielsztrajch (donor's sister) in February 1943, at age nineteen, while she was in hiding in Warsaw. The letter describes living conditions in the Warsaw Ghetto, her escape of Warsaw Ghetto, and her experiences in hiding.

The papers consist of letters from Zofia Cygielsztrajch to her brother Mieczyslaw Cegielski during her stay in a military hospital in Lublin, Poland.

The collection consists of a photograph of Aleksander Stasiak as a young man and a photograph of Gustawa (Gitla) Braun Cygielsztrajach donor's mother at age 26 taken around 1918. Aleksander Stasiak was a neighbor of the Cygielsztrajach family and hid the donor's sister, Zosia, during World War II. Gustawa Cygielsztrajach died in the ghetto in Warsaw, Poland, in December 1941 at the age of 49.
"Difficult years"

"Difficult years" contains information about the occupation of Warsaw and Poland by the Germans and the effect that this occupation had on the family of Mitch (Mieczysław) Cegielski's family. One draft chapter of of "Difficult years" relates to Cegielski's sister, Zosia, and includes authenticated photocopies of medical records relating to Zosia's stay in a military hospital.
