    Provenance
Records were created by the courts and prosecutors' offices in East Germany. The former East German Ministry for State Security (Ministerium für Staatssicherheit or MfS) had taken (over time) into custody a substantial number of the judicial records. After the reunification of Germany, from 1990 onward, the records from the Stasi archive of the German Democratic Republic were collected in the Archives of the Federal Custodian for the materials of the Security Service of the former GDR (Die Bundesbeauftragte für die Unterlagen des Staatssicherheitsdienstes der ehemaligen Deutschen Demokratischen Republik, BStU) in Berlin, Germany. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's International Programs Division acquired selected records from the Federal Custodian for the materials of the Security Service of the former GDR in Mar. 2004. The Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the first part of the collection in June 2004, other accretions in Jun and Oct. 2005, Feb. and Nov. 2006, Jan. 2007, May 2009, April 2010, Nov. 2013 and Feb. 2015. Ongoing project.
