    Interview Summary
    Leo Korona, born on December 12, 1908 in Hamburg, Germany, discusses his early life and family; his family moving to Poland when he was too young to remember; his occupation as a furrier; pre-war antisemitism; living in Katowice with his wife and children in 1939 when the Germans invaded; fleeing to Sosnowitz; being deported to a labor camp in 1941; being sent back to Sosnowitz to set up a fur factory in the ghetto; life in the Sosnowitz ghetto; hiding in a bunker for a few days; being deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps in 1943; being separated from his wife and children; doing forced labor turning clothes into prison uniforms; the bombing of his work building outside of Auschwitz; going on a forced march to Loslau (Wodzislaw); running into the woods during some crossfire; his immediate post war life in various displaced persons camps; falling ill with typhus; returning to Poland to look for surviving family; and immigrating to the United States in 1947.
