- Biography
- Jacques and Hedi Grootkerk were a Dutch Jewish couple who married in Amsterdam in 1940. After the German invasion Jacques fled to France, where he was supposed to meet his wife. With the German advance into France, Jacques continued on to Spain, while Hedi left for England. In Spain, Jacques joined the Princess Irene Bridgade of the Dutch Free Forces. The brigade fought its way from Normandy to Holland. In april 1945 Jacques was reunited with his wife in Paris.
