    Theresienstadt ghetto currency.
    Theresienstadt ghetto currency.

These notes were issued by the Aeltestenrat (Council of Elders) of the Theresienstadt ghetto and bear the signature of the Judenaelteste (chairman of the Council of Elders), Jacob Edelstein. The design was the work of a ghetto inmate, the architect and graphic artist Maximilian Spell (Spiegel), who copied the motif of Moses and the Ten Commandments from the amulet given to him by his mother before he left for Theresienstadt. Spell survived the war and settled in Israel.
