Event History: In May 1946, the Marine Flasher transported 867 European DPs to the U.S., the first contingent to be admitted under President Truman's December 1945 directive expediting the immigration of displaced persons to the U.S. 450 of these new immigrants were assisted by the American Joint Distribution Committee.
