    Overview

    Summary
Traces the war-era activities of Szmul Zygielbojm, a member of the Jewish Bund and a pre-war leader in the Warsaw Jewish community. Drawing on letters, film footage and first-hand accounts the film covers Zygielbojm's appointment to the city council as a liason to the Nazis on Jewish affairs, his escape into exile, and his elevation to the cabinet of the Polish government-in-exile. Zygielbojm took his own life on Apr. 19,1943, during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising to protest the passivity of world leaders.
