- Summary
- John Halder is a professor of literature who is reluctant to align himself with the Nazi Party in 1930s Germany. When the stresses in his personal life become unbearable, he joins the party in order to keep his job and improve his career (and income). As he moves up the party ranks, his professional decisions have devastating effects on those around him.
