On the title page the names of the authors are preceded by their prisoner numbers.

"3rd post-war publication by Oficyna Warszawska abroad. Oficyna Warsawska was established in 1938 by Anatol Girs and Bolesław Barcz in Warsaw and burned during the Warsaw Uprising in which Bolesław Barcz perished. The present work is written by former political prisoners of German concentration camps. It was started shortly after camp Dachau-Allach was liberated by the 7th American Army. Printing was completed in June 1946. 10,000 numbered copies were made. Part of the edition was bound in concentration camp 'stripes' cut from original prison garments"--From We were in Auschwitz, the 2000 English language edition of Byliśmy w Oświęcimiu, p. [197].
