Four boys discovered the caves of Lascaux in September 1940: Georges Agniel, Simon Coencas, Marcel Ravidat, and Jacques Marsal. This comic book rendering of the discovery is based on their testimony and includes images and documents about the site and the war-time experiences of the boys. Marcel Ravidat fled conscription into forced labor to join the French Resistance. Simon Coencas was sent to Drancy internment camp and was released due to his young age (16 years) after the intervention of the Red Cross. His parents were deported to Auschwitz Concentration Camp and did not survive.
