    Overview

    Summary
Thousand kilometers journey into the unknown. They were forced to Soviet slave labor camps, fought for their lives against hunger, disease and terrible Siberian frosts. They experienced unimaginable suffering, but nothing was able to defeat them. Anna Herbich poignantly shows how lives fight for survival on the inhuman land. It allows us to see the drama of the Soviet exile through women's eyes who miraculously survived the Siberian penal servitude. The book "Girls from Siberia" collects the memories of ten women: Janina Kwiatkowska, Stefania Szantyr, Danuta Kamieniecka, Alina Chodkowska, Natalia Zarzycka, Danuta Hewanicka, Weronika Sebastianowicz, Grazyna Jonkajtys-Luba, Barbara Litwiniuk and Zdzislawa Wojcik.
