This story of love and blighted hopes is set in Fascist Italy on the eve of World War II. It details the relationship of two young Jews in the provincial town of Ferrara. When the Fascist regime establish more restrictive racial laws, the narrator and young Micol Finzi-Contini are drawn together. Only through the filter of distance and time does he come to know all he loses.
