    Collective title appears at head of the caption title of each volume.
    Brief biographies of winners of Germany's Knights Cross (Ritterkreuz), distributed as premiums to contributors to the Winterhilfswerk, a fundraising drive conducted under the auspices of the Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt (National Socialist People's Welfare Organization), to provide winter relief during World War II. Each volume features a black & white portrait of the recipient, with their name printed on a red band below the picture.

    Most have illustrations by Theo Matejko, with "Zeichn. Theo Matejko" inside back cover.
