    Overview

    Summary
Ucko?s analysis of the history of Sephardic Dominican Jews was accepted without any objection or further analysis by later historians because it seemed reasonable, and because of his concept of?fusion?. On the other hand I was amazed that historians were willing to cite Ucko?s ideas uncritically, even though he had not made use of footnotes or other references to primary sources meaning that his work, and the ideas expressed, could not be checked. This was all the more remarkable since Ucko had published only one article and it might as well be the product of a writer with a lot of imagination. That is why I set out to analyze his work and look for the primary sources Ucko had used.
