- Summary
- During the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II (1940-1954), many Dutch citizens collaborated with the occupiers. Around 20,000 of these citizens joined the German 'Wehrmacht,' serving the enemy by fighting against our allies. About 10,000 Dutch were members of the Dutch Landwacht or Home Guard, an auxiliary police force set up by the Germans, and served as drivers or as labour inspectors for the occupiers.
