    Overview

    Summary
During WWII, the author kept a diary in a small pocket-sized book while in front line combat. Without these notes, this document would not have been possible. Some notes have been reprinted exactly as recorded on the front lines; others have been expanded to provide continuity. Those of us who have survived front line combat find that; what we experienced in that irretrievable time is something we will always remember, but seldom discuss. Combat veterans can barely tell each other what it was, and find it futile to explain to others. Sometimes an unwillingness to talk or just silence, is out of respect for dead comrades. In this case, I have tried to spare the reader the gory details of war, but still report on what it was like to be a combat infantryman in front line action during WWII in the European Theater of Operations.
