"הספר מגולל את מלחמות חייו של שמחה, שנולד בעיירה מאלץ שבבלרוס. עם פלישת הגרמנים למאלץ, בהיותו בן ארבע עשרה וחצי, הצטרף לפרטיזנים ולחם כדי לשרוד. מאז עלייתו לארץ, בשנת 1946, הוא לחם כחייל וכקצין במילואים בארבע מלחמות ישראל הראשונות. במלחמת יום הכיפורים לחם ברמת הגולן כסמח"ט 188, בעוצבת השיריון ברק. הוא השתחרר מצה"ל בדרגת אל"מ. שמחה נישא לנעמי, גם היא ניצולת שואה שלחמה על הישרדותה, ושניהם נמנים עם מייסדי קיבוץ נצר סרני"--Back cover.
