    Overview

    Summary
Forst was born in 1887. He and his family (wife and four children) lived in the village of Beulich, where he was known as "Siegfried the Jew". He inherited the cattle-dealing business from his father, and also functioned as a slaughterer, until he was forced to give up the business in 1935. In 1936 his two daughters were expelled from school. In May 1938 Forst was fined 1,100 RM for a supposed tax offense and his license was revoked. The Forst family tried to emigrate, without success. In 1942 they were deported to the East; nothing more is known about their fate. This study is based on interviews with some of his contemporaries (a number of those approached by the author refused to speak about Siegfried and his family). Some information was gathered from letters to his nieces, who lived in London from 1937. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism).
