    Description
    At Buchenwald, survivors sit crouched around a fire, looking at the camera. German civilians file past after being taken through barracks. A flatbed of naked corpses situated in front of a building. MS, pile of bodies alongside building as civilians walk past. Women walk by with their heads buried and their hands covering their mouths. Crowds of people with white flags line the road; Germans sit against a fence. Overturned carts on the road with items scattered everywhere; horses eat from the abandoned carts. U.S. infantry run from a tank that is firing into the forest. LS of a building behind trees. Plumes of smoke rising from the building, small fire. A military plane flies through the sky, poised for strafing. Trees are on fire. SLATE, "Madsen 04/13/45" American soldiers stand around a military vehicle as one drives away. SLATE: "Killorin 04/10/45" Men stand on top of two tanks. U.S. military personnel order German prisoners to rise. Shooting tank in a field. Dropping bombs on a Nazi building. Pan of a P-47 dive bombing town. Planes take off. CUs of various angles of a plane. Men clean, repair, and paint the planes. Soldiers stand in a group on an airstrip. Various planes taxiing (seen from inside the hangar). A group stands together and smokes while leaning on a plane. Soldiers read a newspaper, walk up steps followed by a dog, repair planes. One soldier leans out of a window to talk to another. Soldiers hang laundry on a clothes line and wash clothes. VAR shots of soldiers reading, cleaning a car, sitting in the grass, and hosing a truck.

    Film Provenance
    The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum purchased this from the National Archives and Records Administration in September 1991. The footage was obtained as research for the Museum's Permanent Exhibition.

    USHMM replaced the online streaming video with a new, higher resolution digital file produced for the VHH project. The 16mm film source from NARA was scanned by the Austrian Filmmuseum in 2021.
