    Description
    REEL 2: The rise of fascist dictatorships. Some of the Nazi leaders: Hess, Goering, Goebbels, etc. collecting money for charity outside a theater, and cheerfully chatting with the theater-goers. Giant Nazi rally. Hitler speaking to huge crowd who sit listening while being snowed upon. Italian politician Balbo visits Goering's Karinhall, shooting party includes Ernst Udet. Series of CUs of different fascist types making speeches. Various scenes of Germany showing popularity of Nazis and the whole Nazi ideal. One group includes Gen. Rommel. 01:46:38 Mussolini as farmer, helping with the threshing during visit to state-run farm. Italian army maneuvers. 01:48:27 Blackshirts, Whitechapel Road. London's East End, rioting in the presence of Oswald Mosley, leaders of the British Union of Fascists. 01:48:56 Haile Selassie. Pres. Benes of Czechoslovakia in New York after having lost his country to the Germans. 01:49:38 Emigration of German Jews, including Einstein debarking from ship, to rah-rahs from cheerleaders. 01:50:25 Einstein speaks at microphone: "Without such freedom, there would have been no Shakespeare, no Goethe, no Newton, no Pasteur, and no...."     The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum purchased this from WPA Film Library in 2002. The footage was obtained as research for the Museum's special exhibition in 2003 on Nazi bookburning, "Fighting the Fires of Hate."
