    Description
    8mm film is severely compromised by mold. WS, pan of buildings in the city streets of Bucharest (Patriarchate Hill), pedestrians. Sugihara's official car with a small Japanese flag in FG. Driving along the city street in the car with tall buildings in BG. Toddler boy and mother, Yukiko Sugihara, pick flowers from the garden adjacent to the Japanese diplomat's residence. Sister Setsuko and two siblings join, one on a tricycle. The toddler runs towards the camera along the home's walkway and returns to his mother behind. The children play in the yard, the car is parked in front with the residence at the far left. A bridge in the city with Romanians and a man on crutches. Filming as the car drives across the bridge. A man in kimono (house help?) gestures towards the youngest Sugihara off-screen, who appears briefly.

    Subject: Chiune Sugihara
    Biography
    Chiune Sugihara was the Japanese consul general in Kovno, Lithuania who issued more than 2,000 transit visas for Jewish refugees in July-August 1940. The Japanese transferred Sugihara to Prague and then to Bucharest, Romania, Germany's ally, in October 1941 where he remained until the end of the war.
