The Charlene Schiff consists of an immunization card issued by UNRRA, for Sulamit Perelmutter (Charlene Schiff), Bensheim, Germany, 1946-1947, and eleven photographs, 1946-1948. The photographs depict the lives of survivors in displaced persons camps, including a wedding and a Purim celebration.
Collection of Photographs: from Horochow, Poland before the war of Shulamit Perlmutter [later Charlene Schiff (donor’s late mother)], her father Simcha Shimon, philosophy professor at the Lvov University; her mother Frieda Fruma and her sister Tchiya, were murdered when the Luck ghetto was destroyed. Shulamit survived on her own for almost two years. Other photographs are from the Zeilsheim and Foehrenwald DP camps. In June 1949 she immigrated to the US on board SS Marine Flasher. Correspondence: from friends and her husband Ed Schiff; in Polish and English; Mrs. Schiff died in January 2013.
