    Biography
Fabian Gerson (1926-2011) was born in Łódź, Poland to Pinkus (b. 1880) and Dora (née Kon, b. 1896) Gerson and had one sister, Franciszka. After the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, Dora and Franciszka moved to Częstochowa and Pinkus and Fabian were sent to the Łódź ghetto. They escaped in October 1940 and joined Dora and Franciszka. The family was sent to the Częstochowa ghetto from April 1941 until September 22, 1942, when the ghetto was liquidated. Pinkus, Dora, and Franciszka were sent to Treblinka where they were killed. Fabian was sent to forced labor at an armament plant owned by the HASAG company on the outskirts of Częstochowa. In January 1945 he was deported to Buchenwald and was liberated by the American forces in April 1945. Fabian returned to Switzerland, obtained a chemistry doctorate, and became a naturalized Swiss citizen. In 1962 he married Ingeborg Waldmann and they had two children: Daniel (b. 1962) and Deborah (1968).
