    Interview Summary
    Rachel Verderber Garfunkel, originally of Krakow, Poland, describes her life in Canada; her memories of the German invasion of Poland; her move, along with her mother, sister, aunt, and cousins, to a small village in Ukraine; how, when the Germans came, she ran with her younger sister back to the Krakow ghetto, where she worked in a paper factory; being smuggled out of the ghetto with her sister; and spending the rest of the war in hiding.

    Rachel Garfunkel donated her oral history interview to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on July 16, 2008 with the written permission of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton. The oral history was conducted by the Jewish Federation of Edmonton in 2006 and was edited into an educational documentary entitled "Black Snow."
