Experimental racial anthropological tool used to determine hair color/texture

Object | Accession Number: 1990.300.1 b

Traditionally, this kit was used to determine fatherhood or "Vaterschaftsgutachten" in questionable cases prior to the advent of blood tests for this purpose. They were used by doctors, anthropologists and geneticists during the eugenics movement of the Third Reich to measure hair color of various races. Results of such measurements were supposed to prove the "superiority of aryans" and the "inferiority" of Jews, Roma, Blacks and "mixed-breeds."
